Top of the 9th. Brewers are up 4-3. Two outs. There’s a runner on first. Francisco Rodriguez is on the mound looking for the save. He has a 2-2 count against Reds slugger and one of the best hitters in the game, Joey Votto.

Votto flat out crushes the ball to dead center. Here’s how it plays out.

We saw a lot of walk-off hits the first half of the year. There’s almost nothing better than seeing someone smash a ball over the fence and celebrate around the bases while his teammates wait to mob him at home plate. A walk-off home-run stealing catch in dead center at home though? That’s rare and exciting as shit. It’s sad a lot of American missed or dismissed this play because it happened in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. But plays like this need to be celebrated and cheered. Baseball needs it.

And if you’re wondering who Carlos Gomez is, get familiar. This isn’t new for him. Write his name down. Say it 10 times. Do whatever you need to do to remember it. He’s going to amaze you again. Don’t believe me? Here’s another catch from a month prior to the one above in Houston on Tal’s Hill.
